What's this "add to browser" thing?

Screenshot of OpenSearch box in Firefox 3.6

Since 2005, many Web browsers, including Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer, have supported a common search protocol called OpenSearch. If you've ever searched Google or Bing from your browser's toolbar directly (instead of by going first to google.com or bing.com), you've used this feature. Now, you can add the Nazareth directories as a search provider, and search in much the same way.

By default, you will be performing an inclusive search of all students, faculty, and staff. However, there's a very easy way to limit your results, or search for departments:

  • Searching for "smith" will return all students, faculty, and staff who match the query "smith".
  • Searching for "emp:smith" will return all faculty and staff only, who match the query "smith".
  • Searching for "stu:smith" will return all students only, who match the query "smith".
  • Searching for "dept:education" will return all departments matching the query "education".

Does this work with a cell phone or mobile device?

Yes. The Nazareth Directory is the first mobile-enabled website here at Nazareth. Most modern phones should accommodate the mobile view of the directory, but we've completed extensive testing with:

  • iPad™ / iPod® / iPhone® running iOS® 3.2 and higher (iPhone 4, iPad, iPod Touch® Generation 2, etc)
  • Android™-based phones running Android OS 1.3 and higher (Motorola DROID™, HTC Incredible™, Samsung Fascinate™ etc)
  • BlackBerry® smartphones running BlackBerry OS 4.6 and higher (BlackBerry Torch™, BlackBerry Bold™, BlackBerry Curve™, etc)
  • Palm® devices running Palm WebOS™ 1.4 and higher (Palm Prē™, Palm Pixi™, etc)

If you were recently hired, or changed your legal name with HR, it is possible that the automatic refresh process just hasn't caught up yet. If it has been more than 24 hours, and your information is still not present or updated, please contact Joanie Fitzgerald in Office Services.

Why can't I see photos for some people?

To protect the privacy of Nazareth faculty, staff, and students, directory photos are only shown if one of the following conditions is true:

  • The person viewing the directories is logged in and is registered as member of the Nazareth Community
  • The person whose photo you're viewing has "opted in" to making their photo accessible to anonymous users

How do I "opt in" my photo?

To opt in your photo, log in using your Active Directory password. If it is your first time logging in, the system will automatically ask you if you'd like to opt-in.

I don't want my photo visible to anonymous visitors.

To hide your photo from anonymous users, log in and click the privacy settings link. If it is your first time logging in, the system will automatically ask you if you would like to opt-in.

I don't want my photo visible to anyone.

Currently, it is not possible to remove your photo from the system. You can change your privacy settings so that anonymous users can't see your photo, but a member of the Nazareth community with a valid network login will always be able to see your photo.

I don't like my photo.

If you're faculty or staff, you can contact our campus photographer, Alex Shukoff and ask him to take a new photo of you for inclusion on the directory.

If you're a student, you can visit Campus Safety and request a new ID photo.

Please note that with either option it may take up to 24 hours for your photo to be updated.

How do I get removed from the directory?

By default, all currently employed Nazareth Faculty and Staff, and all students registered for the current or next class term are included in the directory. If it is necessary to hide your record, please contact the IT and Media Service Desk at 585-389-2111.
